Bridal Lingerie

If you’re a blushing bride-to-be, you likely have a lot on your plate right now. As joyous as your upcoming nuptials are intended to be—and they will be joyous, once all of your meticulous planning comes to fruition—all of the intense scheduling and preparations can be stressful, to say the least.

Between cake tastings, venue bookings, and finding the perfect dress, the last thing you should have to worry about is your undergarments. Today, we’re hoping to take a weight off of your shoulders by letting you in on every little secret we know.

Here’s how to choose the perfect wedding lingerie, for every bride-to-be.

Choosing Lingerie for Brides-to-Be: Essential Tips and Advice

Not All Wedding Lingerie is Sexy…

Our first little secret is perhaps the most important: consider the not-so-sexy aspects of your undergarments. The words “wedding lingerie” often evokes images of a lacy white négligée worn by a blushing bride on her wedding night, but the reality is that the majority of the lingerie you’ll wear on your big day will be far more functional than fashionable.

When you’re wearing your wedding gown, you’ll need the right undergarments to go underneath.

The style of your wedding dress should inform you what type of lingerie you wear. For example, if your dress is strapless, you’ll need a strapless or convertible bra to match. Backless or extremely low-cut dresses may call for a sticky, adhesive bra.

It’s not uncommon for modern wedding dresses to have built-in bras, which work wonderfully when your dress is fitted correctly, but it doesn’t hurt to wear a pair of pasties, just in case you get a bit too rowdy on the dance floor. Still, you can add a touch of fun with complementary pieces like a garter belt or stockings, which are necessary if you plan to participate in the garter toss tradition.

Additionally, many brides wear shapewear under their gowns, which should also be fitted to match the style of their dress. Make sure that any shapewear is skin-colored, as other colors tend to show through white dresses.

And remember—comfort is key. Tight shapewear and bust-enhancing bras are great, but if they aren’t comfortable, you won’t be able to enjoy your big day to the fullest.

Wedding Day Lingerie

… But Wedding Lingerie Can Be Very Sexy

If the secret to wedding day lingerie is comfort and stability, the secret behind wedding night lingerie is the wow-factor.

White is the most popular color for wedding lingerie, but red is also a popular choice, as it is thought to be the color that represents passion.

That being said, there’s no “one-size-fits-all” style of lingerie. If you want to surprise your new spouse after the ceremony, choose a wedding lingerie ensemble that makes you feel like the blushing bride you are. Whether it’s lace, silk, or satin, your lingerie should exude romance.

A delicate, lacy babydoll with a matching g-string is a great choice if you want a style that feels romantic in a breezy, yet demure way.

On the other hand, a teddy with metal rings and straps is a fierce way to seduce your other half, letting them know you’re prepared for a tantalizing celebration of your nuptials.

All of this being said, your wedding day will likely be an exhausting experience. If you don’t get around to consummating your union right then, you’re not alone! In fact, one survey found that roughly 52% of couples don’t have sex on their wedding night. You’ll have lots of time to do the deed on your honeymoon, giving you numerous opportunities to wear tempting lingerie ensembles to delight both you and your spouse.
